Yes, Apt2B has its headquarters in Los Angeles. Yes, violet and gold are the colors of the LA Lakers. But we swear that’s not the reason we’ve chosen Ultra Violet and gold as our Apt2B Color Combo of the Month (though we do love the Lakers). We’ve chosen this bold color combo thanks to Pantone. Pantone has deemed Ultra Violet its coveted Color of the Year. And there’s no color that complements violet quite as well as gold. Together this color combo is helping kick off the new year in style.

Violet

If you’ve been an avid reader of the Apt2B blog then you’ll remember that purple is the color of royalty (and was originally created by harvesting snails). Violet is a color that’s rich, powerful, and demands attention. In the world of interior design it can be a tricky color to work with. That’s because it’s an all-or-nothing type of color. That’s what makes Pantone’s Color of the Year decision so intriguing. Pantone describes Ultra Violet as, “complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.” More importantly, violet is the color of jacarandas and a color that makes for a uniquely beautiful sofa.

Gold

Speaking of the rich, the powerful, and the royal, nothing evokes a sense of prestige like gold. But gold is no longer restricted to the upper crust of society. Gold has become a prominent and truly essential part of contemporary interior design. It provides the perfect amount of glitz and glam to transform even the most drab of spaces into something special. All a room needs to stand out is a touch of gold. It works extremely well as an accent color on accessories like faucets, drawer pulls, furniture legs, tchotchkes, and lamps. It can be easy to overwhelm a space with too much gold so we do encourage you to exhibit a little restraint in your design future.

Ultra Violet And Gold

Why have one royal color when you can have two? Ultra Violet and gold were born to be together. They both have strong personalities, but bringing them together elicits an uncommon sense of passion. Neither color bows to the other. They each share the spotlight equally. Violet adds a sense of peace, mindfulness, and warmth to a space while gold adds charm, character, and class. This color combo is often associated with the grandiose Mardi Gras festival, which is a reason many people overlook it as a color combination for their homes. I’m here to say that this is a mistake. When used tastefully and sparingly, this color combo absolutely completes a space. Try this color combo on your toss pillows, throw blankets, wall art, and – dare I say it – your sofa!
